Southchurch

SouthchurchSouthchurch is one of the oldest parts of South Essex, stretching from Southend to Thorpe Bay, via the main Southchurch Road. The housing stock mainly dates from the first half of the twentieth century, when Southchurch developed from its original village into a residential district of Southend which it has now become. The area had a population of 9,710 in the 2011 census.

SouthchurchSouthchurch is home to a thriving High Street, which is quite amazing considering its proximity to its bigger brother Southend. All sorts of independent shops have established themselves here; whilst larger branded shops have continued to trade with promising results.

The lovely Southchurch Park is an expansive area of green which includes a cricket and athletics ground, children's playground, an ornamental lake and a refreshment pavilion. The park also contains a bowling green, tennis courts and is the home ground of Southend Manor Youth Football Club.

To the south of the nearest station, Southend East is Southchurch Hall, a thirteenth-century moated manor house now open to the public as a museum, which stands in a small park, Southchurch Hall Gardens. Southend itself is a 5 minute drive away with all of its bars, clubs and restaurants.

Getting here

Southchurch is served by the reliable c2c train line, operated by National Express. The local station, entitled Southend East is a 65 minute journey from London Fenchurch Street, stopping at station such as Benfleet, Basildon and Upminster along the way.

Southchurch also has good bus links to the surrounding towns, conducted by Arriva, with the number 1, 4 and 4a passing through the village respectively.

Parking is less of an issue in Southchurch and spaces can often be found due to free parking in the streets whilst those wanting to walk could make it into Southend within 15 minutes. Southchurch is best accessed by car via the A127 or A13 via London Road.

Education

Southchurch is home to Southend Adult Community College, located on Ambleside Drive offering a vast array of courses and apprenticeships. The area also has three primary schools and one junior school in the immediate vicinity. The closest secondary schools are Cecil Jones College located on Eastern Avenue and Futures Community College located on Southchurch Boulevard.
