Chalkwell is home to a beach, aptly named Chalkwell Beach. This is an ideal area to relax if you are looking to avoid the more built up and tourist attracting areas of the seafront, closer to Adventure Island. Chalkwell Park is also a peaceful retreat with its open green spaces. The park is home to a one day music festival, ‘Village Green’ which last year attracted over 25,000 throughout the course of the day. The festival is an excellent opportunity for local bands, with last year being headlined by ‘Nothing But Thieves’, who have since gone on to find nationwide fame.
Chalkwell is served by the reliable c2c train line, operated by National Express. The journey which eventually terminates at London Fenchurch Street stops at stations such as Benfleet, Basildon, Upminster and Barking along the way.
The area has strong bus links, mainly via The London Road with the number 5 bus conducted by Arriva linking the area with Southend one way and Basildon the other. The area is best accessible by car via the A127 and A13.
During 2015 property sales in Chalkwell involved flats which sold for on average £167,175. Detached properties which sold for an average price of £676,000, while semi-detached properties averaged at £409,527. As with surrounding areas, the properties closer to the seafront generally achieve a higher price, with some properties on Chalkwell Avenue and the surrounding roads achieving in excess of £1,000,000.
Chalkwell is home to Chalkwell Hall Junior School however there are no secondary schools in the immediate area. The nearest secondary schools are Westcliff High School for Girls, Southend High School for Boys and Chase High School.
